“The stages in the development of chess resemble the path taken by everyone who proceeds from a beginner to a player of high standard.” — Garry Kasparov, former world champion, in his book My Great Predecessors

OVERVIEW

This group meets online on Sundays for two hours, starting at 6:00pm ET (5:00pm CT, 4:00pm MT, 3:00pm PT). Most students in this group are rated between 250 and 850 USCF.

NOTE: This course is not open to adults.

Students play one USCF-online-regular-rated game per week, after which a professional chess coach will help students analyze their games together as a group. When time permits, the coach will also give the class puzzles and lectures on tactics and strategy. Coaches are all experienced chess players who have a passion for teaching. The instructor for this class is Epiphany Peters (USCF: 2122).

  • Time control: game in 25 minutes with a 5-second increment

  • Games submitted to the USCF for rating at the end of every month

  • Open to scholastic players from any geographical location

  • Active USCF membership required

  • Class participation strongly encouraged

BILLING

The cost of enrollment is $150/month. Fees are assessed regardless of attendance. After registering online, you will be set up for automatic monthly payments. These payments can be cancelled prior to the start of the upcoming month.

Note: By default, students who register online will be enrolled at the beginning of the upcoming month. If you purchase a course entry in the middle of a month, we will send you an email from courses@dmvchess.com asking if you would like to have your child start right away or wait until next month. Students who wish to join a class mid-month would be offered the opportunity to pay a prorated invoice for the first month.
