The 1st Annual Beltway Open Scholastic Championship

IMPORTANT: The venue for the scholastic tournament has changed.

NOTE ABOUT VENUE CHANGE:

Due to higher-than-expected turnout for the 3-day Beltway Open main event, we have moved the scholastic championship tournament to a different venue not far from the original location. Instead of being at the Tysons Corner Westin, this scholastic tournament will take place at the Courtyard by Marriott Tysons McLean hotel on 1960 Chain Bridge Rd, McLean, VA 22102. The 3-day main-event Beltway Open will remain at the original venue.

The Courtyard Marriott has a garage with free parking (and there may be some spots available in front of the hotel as well). The tournament will take place upstairs in the Fairfax Room unless the hotel later decides to move us to a different room.

• Four rounds; first round at 9 am, subsequent rounds occur as soon as possible

• Four sections: K-12, K-8, K-5, and K-3

    • Note: The Beltway Open (3 days long) is for both adults and children, whereas The Beltway Open Scholastic Championship (1-day event) is only open to scholastic players

• Time control: Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second delay

• Entry fee: $40 by 7/19, $45 by 8/4, $50 on/after 8/5 (on-site registration closes 30 minutes before round 1)

• Masks are required for players while in the tournament room and optional outside the tournament room

• Boards and pieces will be provided for all players, but we don’t have enough clocks for everyone (those who have clocks are welcome to bring them)
