Since 2017, DMV Chess has been providing in-person chess tournaments and instruction for both children and adults. In March 2020, DMV Chess began running online chess tournaments, camps, and classes.

Our Mission

DMV Chess believes that chess is great for children. Chess teaches kids critical thinking and helps them boost their confidence. It’s also just lots of fun! We want every child in the U.S. (and around the world) to have the opportunity to play competitive chess tournaments online.

What We've Achieved

Organized online and in-person chess tournaments for more than 5000 unique players.
Created the DMV Chess League, in which over 300 players have participated.
Organized the official Washington, D.C. Chess Championship in 2020.

Created after-school chess clubs in D.C., MD, and VA.
Organized more than 650 USCF-rated tournaments.
Hosted chess camps and lectures with Grandmaster chess coaches.
